Outcomes After Achilles Tendonitis Treatment

In most cases, with the correct treatment, Achilles tendonitis should not last any longer than 6-8 weeks, although it is possible that adhesions may form in the injured site. If such adhesions do occur, the athlete will not only be unable to return to their sport, but they will also experience severe, persistent pain in the region, in particular, when climbing stairs. This form of the injury, known as chronic Achilles tendonitis, requires total immobilization of the leg for approximately 4 weeks. If symptoms continue to persist, or reoccur after the patient’s return to sports, surgery may even be required.
